This just came up on my facebook and I felt the need to share here so that maybe someone can answer me a simple question. And also to ask that anyone who watches/posts about anime reblog so I can follow you.
Why are people so afraid of admitting they watch anime?
American cartoons haven’t been good in awhile (though I do love me some Phineas and Ferb) and anime is usually really damn good. And regardless of what anyone might think, it completely destroys the stereotype that animated shows are only for kids. You go watch a few episodes of Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, or Trinity Blood and tell me if you’d let your 8 year old watch it - and those are extremely mild in comparison to some.
Plus I think just about everyone who used to watch cartoon network (when it was good) has watched anime - Toonami anyone? - even though a lot of people don’t know it because it didn’t use to be differentiated from any other cartoon. Dragon Ball Z? Sailor Moon? Anime. And Avatar: The Last Airbender is just an American anime - based off the Japanese anime style. And anyone who has seen that show knows its amazing.
A lot of anime are, in my opinion, better than a lot of live action shows even. The writing for Full Metal Alchemist and FMA Brotherhood, for example, absolutely blow my mind.
The problem here isn’t the people who watch anime, its the people who have never watched it and judge it anyway. Seriously. Animation is obviously a huge thing culturally in Japan so its only natural that their major entertainment area is animated rather than live-action. That doesn’t make it any less awesome and personally I think it makes it so much cooler because you get to see all the different animation styles depending on artists.
Anime is awesome. Its a whole culture in and of itself. I guarantee that anyone willing to give it a chance would be able to find at least one show that they would love because it spans so many genres and story lines that there is something for everyone.
Seriously. Stop the hating. If you’ve never watched it, give something a shot. I’d be happy to try to recommend something to you - though I’ve only seen a select few myself because I tend to get addicted and then do nothing but watch that show until I finish it (2 weeks of my life almost entirely dedicated to FMA: Brotherhood. No joke). And if you do like it then why be afraid to say it? Anime is awesome.
P.S. if you watch anime I’m always taking suggestions. My all time fave is Full Metal Alchemist (both versions) with Inuyasha as a close second. Currently watching - and loving - Death Note. Nothing scary lol. I prefer dubs but I’m open to subs since I’m learning Japanese and that supposedly helps lol. Thanks!
